Pacaya Volcano
Your journey begins with an approximately one-hour transfer from Antigua to the foothills of the active Pacaya Volcano, where your private guide will be waiting for you. The hike starts with a walk through pine forest, gradually transitioning into volcanic ash and rocky terrain.
Due to the most recent eruption in 2021, it is no longer possible to approach the crater closely. However, you will be able to observe it from a safe distance, with views of the smoking volcanic cone. With a bit of luck, you may occasionally witness small eruptions or lava flows, depending on the volcano’s activity. Throughout the hike, you’ll enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the northern volcanoes.
You’ll also have the chance to roast marshmallows using the natural heat of the volcano while taking in the dramatic, otherworldly landscape. Be sure to visit the “Lava Store” near the summit, where you can purchase one-of-a-kind handicrafts made with silver and volcanic rock—truly unique souvenirs.
